Dariusz Jackowski & Cats of Dust – Mikrodawkowanie [Sleezy Dog]
Don’t be fooled by the title of Dariusz Jackowski and Jakub Knoll’s latest production (a ka Cats of Dust). This is not material that necessarily needs to be dosed out in small portions. On the contrary, it will only speak to us more fully as a whole, because it is a concept in its purest form.
Imagine a post-apocalyptic world in which the omnipresent Fungus has taken control of the remnants of ancient human civilisation. The remains of ruined cities are inhabited by tribes of barbarians who spend their days in a sporicidal trance. They have long since lost the ability to speak and communicate with each other through melodies played on bone flutes and reed flutes. And all this is accompanied by the murmur of Mother Mushroom, which sounds like the echo of forgotten machines.
Mikrodawkowanie is a musical page from this fantastic land, a record of improvised «conversations» between man and fungi. A multitude of melodies of almost folkloric origin played on various wind instruments (bagpipes, flutes, jellies, etc.) are here set against droning electronics, lazy mechanical rhythms and dog-like voices.
The abstract ethnic-like melodies played on the various wind instruments (flute, clarinet, Armenian folk pipe, zhalejka, koncovka, bawu…) are set on top of electronic soundscapes full of drones, mechanical rhythms, etheral resonances and wobbling synths. Everything is accompanied by the ocasional intrusion of the dog improvising along the woodwinds.
