Emmon – ICONMIXED [Icons Creating Evil Art]

Since the October 2025 release of her acclaimed album ICON, Emma Nagaoka, known artistically as Emmon, has been developing a reinterpretation of her own sonic universe. Her upcoming project, the remix album ICONMIXED, presents itself as a cross-cutting exploration of the most compelling facets of European alternative and industrial music.

The journey toward ICONMIXED began with the single Speak to Me. Following an initial remix by the Swiss-German duo SIIE, a hard-hitting surprise arrived from Denmark’s The Foreign Resort. The Copenhagen trio stripped the track of its original synthetic chill, immersing it in a cavern of reverb, saturated guitars, and thrash metal attitude, building an organic bridge between post-punk, shoegaze, and alternative rock.

Now, the path leading to the full-length album adds a new installment with a restructuring of Relics, handed over to Swedish post-punk and synth-wave pioneers Agent Side Grinder. The choice of Agent Side Grinder to remix Relics goes beyond a simple stylistic collaboration; there is a deep-rooted connection with Emanuel Åström, Agent Side Grinder’s lead vocalist, who lent his vocals to the original version on the 2025 ICON album. This new take naturally extends the alliance between these two powerhouses of the Swedish underground. As pioneers of the Scandinavian post-punk revival in the early 2010s with albums such as Hardware and Alkimia, Agent Side Grinder revamped their lineup in 2017 to delve deeper into synthetic territory without losing the dramatic raw edge that defines their DNA.

What the ICONMIXED project continues to demonstrate is the sheer elasticity of EMMON’s compositions. By bringing together artists from various corners of the dark alternative scene, ICON reveals itself as a living body of work that adapts just as seamlessly to thunderous post-punk stages as it does to electronic realms like EBM.

Desde el lanzamiento en octubre de 2025 de su aclamado álbum ICON, Emma Nagaoka, conocida artísticamente como Emmon, ha estado gestando la reinterpretación de su propio universo sonoro. Su próximo trabajo, el álbum de remezclas ICONMIXED, se presenta como una exploración transversal por las aristas más interesantes de la música alternativa e industrial europea.

El recorrido hacia ICONMIXED comenzó a través del sencillo Speak to Me. Tras la primera remezcla firmada por el dúo suizo-alemán SIIE, llegó la contundente sorpresa a cargo de los daneses The Foreign Resort. El trío de Copenhague despojó al tema de la frialdad sintética original para sumergirlo en una caverna de reverb, guitarras saturadas y actitud thrash metal, tendiendo un puente orgánico entre el post-punk, el shoegaze y el rock alternativo.

Ahora, la travesía hacia el álbum completo suma un nuevo trabajo con la reestructuración de Relics, entregada a manos de los pioneros del post-punk y synth-wave sueco Agent Side Grinder. La elección de Agent Side Grinder para remezclar Relics trasciende la simple colaboración estilística. Existe una conexión previa con Emanuel Åström, vocalista de Agent Side Grinder, ya que prestó su voz para la versión original del tema en el álbum ICON de 2025. Esta relectura funciona, por tanto, como una continuación orgánica de la alianza entre estas dos fuerzas del underground sueco.
