NNHMN – Deception Island Part 2 [Oráculo Records]
NNHMN is a minimal synth/wave duo composed of Berlin-based Polish artists Michal Laudarg and Lee Margot. Starting from 2019, they have released a series of EPs and the album Church Of No Religion, showcasing their haunting, seductive and nocturnal brand of synth music with skeletal structures and crooning female vocals.
Early this year they published the first part of Deception Island on Oráculo Records, and now that the year is ending, they have just released the second part of this two-EPs epic. New tales in the world of NNHMN, which is everybody’s else world, but informed and filtered by a profound and artistic vision full of existential poetry.
In Darkness welcomes us with its vibrant synth sounds soon reached by steady kicks and Lee’s vocals. A nostalgic, retro atmosphere meets modern electro sensibilities in a mysterious affair blessed by the night. A steady gallop mad of cymbals and snare drums guide us toward celestial melodies .
Robot Woman employs pounding beats and hypnotizing synth sounds, crafting a sensual experience ready to climax in captivating club moments. Once again the singer voice haunts the electric soundscape like a specter talking to us from another spectrum of reality, conceiving a dream-like scenario.
Cold Eyes is a throbbing moment aptly using claps and cosmic lines in another noir tale. Technopop galore is the solid ground for a game of rhythm and keys, without forfeiting the sense of hidden danger around the corner.
Education Lost ends the EP with a cold, factory-like structure graced by filtered vocals. A paranoid atmosphere with a sort of acid vibe gives us a modern rendition of early synth music with punk and experimental elements – but all fitted in NNHMN’s style and mood.
Deception Island Part 2 continues the ever-going evolution and redefinition of NNHMN. Like heralds of another reality among us, they watch, they think, they narrate with a language of their own, redefining our world for new visions and views. If you are not already aware of them, it’s time to make amends.
