Peter Murphy – Swoon [Metropolis Records]

The iconic Peter Murphy, renowned both for his time as the frontman of Bauhaus and for his solo career, is internationally regarded as the most prominent figure in gothic rock since he emerged with Bauhaus. With his distinctive voice, unique stage presence, and a style heavily influenced by 1930s horror films and the figure of Hungarian actor Bela Lugosi, the English band captured this essence in their debut with Bela Lugosi’s Dead.

After 45 years, Peter Murphy remains active in his solo project, in addition to having toured not long ago with his former Bauhaus bandmates. However, Peter Murphy has recently made headlines with the release of Swoon a few days ago, a new single that cements his triumphant return in November 2024 with Let The Flowers Grow, a duet he shares with Boy George.

Después de 45 años, Peter Murphy sigue activo en su proyecto en solitario, además de haber girado no hace tanto con sus antiguos compañeros de Bauhaus. No obstante, recientemente Peter Murphy ha sido noticia por lanzar Swoon hace unos días, un nuevo single que le encumbra tras su regreso triunfal en noviembre de 2024 con Let The Flowers Grow, dúo que comparte con Boy George.

Percussive and expansive, Swoon is a superlative slice of synth-punk/funk that captures Murphy’s voice in all its sonorous glory. Produced by Youth (Pink Floyd, The Verve, Crowded House, member of Killing Joke, The Orb, The Firemen w/Paul McCartney), the song is the first to be released from Murphy’s new album, Silver Shade, due out on 9th May 2025. Recorded at Youth’s studio in Spain, it is the long-awaited follow-up to Lion, which the pair worked on together a decade ago. A symbiotic relationship born of artistic collaboration, Murphy states that «this new album is as powerful as any of my work to date.»

Producida por Youth (Pink Floyd, The Verve, Crowded House, miembro de Killing Joke, The Orb, The Firemen w/Paul McCartney), la canción es la primera que se publica del nuevo álbum de Murphy, Silver Shade, que saldrá a la venta el 9 de mayo de 2025. Grabado en el estudio de Youth en España, es la esperada continuación de Lion, en el que ambos trabajaron juntos hace una década. Una relación simbiótica nacida de la colaboración artística, Murphy afirma que «este nuevo álbum es tan poderoso como cualquiera de mis trabajos hasta la fecha.»
