Wará – Muharib [Urban Legend Records]
It’s been six years since we first heard from Wará, and now, as 2023 draws to a close, he returns with a new work in which he is once again influenced by Arab culture. Luna Verde, the first EP released by this Catalan producer on Urban Legend Records, musically recreated the rhythms and murmurs heard daily in the streets of Barcelona’s charismatic Raval neighbourhood, full of souks, bazaars and Arab hairdressers.
Urban Legend releases Wará’s second EP and once again, the author’s main influence is once again his link to Arab culture. Muharib, which means ‘warrior’ in Arabic, is a 4-track that honours and celebrates her ability to resist injustice, embrace her empowerment and her feminine essence. Through Muharib, the artist explores and delves into the concepts of strength and femininity, weaving a sonorous homage to them. Each track on the EP is named after four remarkable women from the Arab world, whose dedication and efforts have made significant strides in the struggle for women’s rights: Durriya Shafik, Zaynab al-Ghazzali, Nawal el-Saadawi and Fatima Mernissi. Their inspiring legacies intertwine with the melodies, breathing life into the EP that pays tribute to their tireless struggle and unwavering spirit.
Wará masterfully blends diverse sonic concepts to create a uniform style, where rhythmic patterns and powerful synthesised lines show their dominance under a dark atmosphere.
Release date: November 23rd, 2023.
