11xxx27 – Where Dreams Collide [Repulse Xplosif]

We find under the moniker 11xxx27 Italian artist Erminio Granata, known as a cofounder of Infidel Bodies, and for projects like Code27 and Hyperlacrimae. The project is informed by different stimuli, and it keeps evolving and changing with every release, while maintaining its experimental and evocative core made of droning, dreamy soundscapes, upon which he adds further elements.

Tras el alias 11xxx27 se encuentra el artista italiano Erminio Granata, cofundador de Infidel Bodies y creador de proyectos como Code27 e Hyperlacrimae. Su propuesta, alimentada por múltiples estímulos, evoluciona con cada lanzamiento sin perder su esencia experimental: paisajes sonoros hipnóticos y envolventes, sobre los que teje capas adicionales de texturas.

Where Dreams Collide follows suit with its fusion of sparse, eerie ambiances and rhythmic elements in slow/mid-tempo. The result is a work reminiscent of both old-school industrial/dark ambient tendencies and modern IDM, techno, synth, and contemporary electronica. An idiosyncratic-but-coherent experience that welcomes the listener to its own private dimension.

Where Dreams Collide continúa esta exploración, fusionando atmósferas inquietantes y minimalistas con elementos rítmicos de tempo lento a medio. El resultado es una obra que dialoga tanto con la tradición industrial/dark ambient como con el IDM, techno y la electrónica contemporánea. Una experiencia idiosincrásica pero coherente que transporta al oyente a una dimensión íntima.

Perception Of Reality engages us with its sharp drones and sparse, robust percussion, building up a crawling crescendo that never climaxes during its duration, working instead as a preparation for Celestial Overdose; true to its name, this track starts in a similar fashion to the previous one, adding to the experience ghostly samples and evocative elements. After the second half, we find this time some rhythmic outbursts with techno/rhythmic noise qualities – their restrained, controlled nature produces a syncopated pattern that reminds us of broken machinery.

Perception Of Reality nos sumerge en drones afilados y percusiones robustas pero esporádicas, construyendo un crescendo que nunca estalla, funcionando más bien como preludio para Celestial Overdose. Esta última, fiel a su nombre, retoma la atmósfera anterior pero incorpora muestras espectrales y elementos evocadores. Tras la mitad del tema, irrumpen patrones rítmicos con rasgos de techno y noise sincopado, evocando maquinaria averiada.

The Gift Of Forgiveness fully displays a cinematic soundscape informed by synth-music and modern ambient, a majestic drone that doesn’t shy away from emotion and a sense of loss and memory, a very touching moment which contrasts nicely with the following number Dreaming With Lies: here we have similar ambient tendencies, but developed via grandiose chopped-and-screwed structures and synth sounds close to witch-house, tools used in a suspended atmosphere where reality and illusion become one.

The Gift Of Forgiveness despliega un sonido cinematográfico entre synth-music y ambient moderno: un drone majestuoso cargado de emotividad, pérdida y memoria. Un momento conmovedor que contrasta con Dreaming With Lies, donde el ambient se deforma mediante estructuras chopped-and-screwed y sintetizadores cercanos al witch-house, creando un limbo entre realidad e ilusión.

Flight To Dead is underlined by a melody that sounds curiously as a mutated version of the classic X-Files Theme, a hypnotizing sequence that evolves into a sublime homage to early 90’s meditative trance, while showcasing its own, strange, nature. Last Call ends the album with a proper drone piece that works on sound-layers and loops, an oneiric mantra that guides us softly toward oblivion; an apt finale for a quite evocative experience suspended within mind and matter.

Flight To Dead gira en torno a una melodía que recuerda a una versión mutada del tema de The X-Files, evolucionando hacia un homenaje sublime al trance meditativo de los 90, pero con una identidad singular. Last Call cierra el álbum con una pieza drone de capas y loops: un mantra onírico que nos guía suavemente hacia el olvido, rematando esta experiencia suspendida entre la mente y la materia.

Once again 11xxx27 offers its own vision and sensibilities in the field of modern experimental music, starting from elements familiar to the lovers of drone and ambient music, and then changing/adjusting the formula with the adding of rhythmic and “alien” takes that are fully integrated in the soundscape. The music perfectly fits the themes of transformation and fragmentation of reality(ies), presenting an almost alchemical approach, while eschewing esoteric or dark tendencies. Have a listen.

Una vez más, 11xxx27 ofrece su visión única en la música experimental contemporánea. Parte de elementos reconocibles para los amantes del drone y el ambient, pero los transforma mediante ritmos y toques «alienígenas» integrados con maestría. Su música refleja temas de transformación y fragmentación de la realidad con un enfoque casi alquímico, sin caer en lo esotérico. Una escucha obligada.
