LVRIN – Return [Soil Records]

The sixth vinyl release from Soil Records vindicates this project’s great commitment to a retrospective style in which the basslines are clearly dominant over the rest of the sound elements.

The French artists Imperial Black Unit open the A-side with a psychedelic adaptation of EBM in which the arpeggio is transferred to all the harmonic patterns, from the bass frequencies to the acid melody. The second cut on this side is by the Czech couple Fractions. Intensity is a piece with more than half of its development with a syncopated bass drum and a break and a bassline more typical of the electro, although the track still has a great connection with the nature of the label because of its industrial sound.  LVRIN closes the A-side with Return, opaque acid techno with a lot of details, from its degraded rhythm to twisted timbres.

Cash On the Dresser is the first cut of the B-side, this time it’s the Czech Exhausted Modern who with a slower cadence and an arpeggiated bass loop creates a sound framework that denotes serenity, but at the same time also shows an overwhelming energy. Ekman signs the second and final cut on this side with 48, an electro track with which the Dutch producer demonstrates that with few elements and well used he can create a consistent track, in this case using only the rhythmic part, bassline, a pad and a final melodic component.
