Contre Soirée (the alias of French musician and producer Olivier Decodts) returns to the Italian label Veyl with Psychiatry, a four-track EP that transcends mere music to become an intimate and harrowing testimony. Shaped by profound personal experiences and unfiltered emotional intensity, this work cements Olivier as an artist capable of transforming pain into visceral art.

Rooted in post-punk but with a contemporary edge, Psychiatry blends the darkness of industrial electronics with raw, melodic guitars, all performed by Olivier himself. The result is a sound that evokes both the rawness and experimentation of his industrial roots, yet carries a uniquely personal narrative.

What might have initially seemed like a dark promotional gimmick soon reveals itself as an unflinching reality: Psychiatry was conceived, completed, and sent to Veyl during Olivier’s stay in a psychiatric hospital. The first three tracks of the EP (King of the World, Psychiatry, and Don’t Wake Me Up) form a linear narrative, tracing, with brutal honesty, the events and emotional journey that led to his hospitalization.

The EP closes with a cover of Pixies’ Gauge Away, a years-long personal obsession for Olivier. Far from a mere tribute, his reinterpretation drowns the alt-rock classic in Psychiatry’s sonic and emotional universe. The guitars twist into a gloomier tone, and Olivier’s voice carries a restrained desperation, turning the track into a final note of reverence and release.

Psychiatry is an act of courage. Olivier Decodts isn’t seeking to please audiences with functional beats, he’s exposing his rawest truth. Contre Soirée, alias del músico y productor francés Olivier Decodts, regresa al sello italiano Veyl con Psychiatry, un cuatro pistas que trasciende lo meramente musical para convertirse en un testimonio íntimo y desgarrador. Moldeado por experiencias personales profundas y una intensidad emocional sin filtros, este trabajo confirma a Olivier como un artista capaz de transformar el dolor en arte visceral.

Con raíces en el post-punk pero con una mirada contemporánea, Psychiatry fusiona la oscuridad de la electrónica industrial con guitarras ásperas y melódicas, todas interpretadas por el propio Olivier. El cierre del EP llega con una versión de ‘Gauge Away’ de Pixies, una obsesión personal de Olivier durante años. Lejos de ser un simple tributo, su reinterpretación sumerge el clásico del rock alternativo en el universo sonoro y emocional de Psychiatry. Las guitarras se retuercen en un tono más sombrío, y la voz de Olivier transmite una desesperación contenida que convierte el tema en una nota final de reverencia y liberación.
