Iker Ormazabal Martínez – Unlimited Dream Company [Brachliegen Tapes]
Unlimited Dream Company is the latest barrage of rhythmic industrial noise from Iker Ormazabal Martínez (IOM). The release is 40 minutes of tense sleep paralysis in which piledriver basses, blown out kicks, slicing synths and growls of feedback straddle sub pressure drones. IOM’s voice is minced by this machine churn: the infernal drill master swallowed up and regurgitated by his nightmares in a fugue of recoiling anguish. Bringing to mind the great Esplendor Geométrico, IOM channels a torrent of frustration at conservative ideology’s compulsion to repeat its regulating myths into a brain cleansing gothic trance of razor sharp machine rhythms.
Following 2022’s Home is Where the Hatred is and Happiness and Sacrifice on Soil Records, IOM returns to Brachliegen to explore religious symbolism, competing ideas of redemption, and the hypocrisy of the morally-appointed ruling classes through hard modulating structures of sonic despair. Over eight dreamscapes, industrial noise is developed as an apotropaic ritual through a dense series of sleep cycles. The sonic prothesis of heavy electronics enact a transference of evil, where the contagious beliefs of cultural hegemony are expelled and shovelled into the furnace. There’s nothing sacred here: profane regeneration fractures the power of the fetish and repurposes it as acidic basslines in refracted conversation with the club tradition.
Squelching dub builds into slinking electrical grooves, as synths roam in and out of tune. Rattling chains are mangled by heavy saturation and engulfed by a sledgehammer of pulverising kicks. A totem of resistance, Unlimited Dream Company is a rousing call to sacrifice the dying gods and build again from the debris of the post-industrial wasteland.
Release date: August 4th, 2023.
