Stephen Roddy – Corpus/Mimesis [Fiadh Productions]

Corpus/Mimesis is a visceral sonic interpretation of the work of Jean-Luc Nancy that permanently resides in the listener’s subconscious. It emerged from a collaboration between AMAE, Pier Giorgio De Pinto, and Jean-Luc Nancy, for which the artist produced a series of compositions and installations between 2014 and 2022. Notably, here we hear Jean-Luc Nancy’s voice reading aloud his fifty-eight indices on the body, a series of brief reflections on the body that explore themes such as rhythm, noise, cycles, discontinuities, overlapping harmonies, and, critically: the voice, in its relationship with the body.

Corpus/Mimesis es una interpretación sonora visceral de la obra de Jean-Luc Nancy que se aloja permanentemente en el subconsciente del oyente. Surgió de una colaboración entre AMAE, Pier Giorgio De Pinto y Jean Luc Nancy para la que el artista produjo una serie de composiciones e instalaciones entre 2014 y 2022. Destaca aquí la voz de Jean-Luc Nancy leyendo en voz alta sus cincuenta y ocho índices sobre el cuerpo, una serie de breves reflexiones sobre el cuerpo que exploran temas como el ritmo, el ruido, los ciclos, las discontinuidades, las armonías superpuestas y, críticamente: la voz, en su relación con el cuerpo.

Each index is wrapped in a unique sound world that reflects and elaborates Nancy’s statements, embodying the rich layers of meaning embedded in his work through sound. The pieces here explore these notions within the broader framework of Nancy’s conception of the «body» as it is set up with/against his conception of «mimesis.»

Cada índice está envuelto en un mundo sonoro único que refleja y elabora las afirmaciones de Nancy, encarnando las ricas capas de significado que encierra su obra a través del sonido. Las piezas aquí exploran estas nociones dentro del marco más amplio de la concepción de Nancy del «cuerpo» tal como se establece con/contra su concepción de «mimesis».

The tracks on this tape represent a celebration of the life and work of Jean-Luc Nancy and the final fulfillment of this project. The encounter with Corpus and Stephen Roddy’s experience working with the Indices on the Body has profoundly shaped his way of thinking and the manner in which he approached his artistic practice. This tape is also a thank you to Jean-Luc and to Ivan (from AMAE) and Pier Giorgio for including Roddy in the project back at Helicotrema 2015 and for allowing him to work with this material.

Las pistas de esta cinta representan una celebración de la vida y obra de Jean-Luc Nancy y el cumplimiento final de este proyecto. El encuentro con Corpus y la experiencia de Stephen Roddy trabajando con los Índices sobre el Cuerpo ha moldeado profundamente su forma de pensar y la manera en que se acercó a su práctica artística. Esta cinta también es un agradecimiento a Jean-Luc y a Ivan (de AMAE) y Pier Giorgio por incluir a Roddy en el proyecto allá por Helicotrema 2015, y por permitirle trabajar con este material.
