8 Hour Animal – Kill Your Boss [Sentient Ruin Laboratories]
8 Hour Animal emerged from the East coast in 2020 via a string of extremely limited home-dubbed tapes focused on abstract pummeling harsh noise wall and power electronics, but it was its debut album “Resigner” (released in 2021 via Sentient Ruin) which brought new focus and definition to the project, adding a whole new arsenal of tangible and iconic horrors to its hideous framework, as elements of classic industrial and metal made their way into band’s sound taking it to a new realm of urgency and destructiveness. Written in complete loneliness and isolation 8 Hour Animal’s current sound fuses heavy grinding guitars with industrial percussion, caustic atmospherics, and walls of hateful hissing noise to paint a daunting modern design to complete self-annihilation. The lyrics dealing in self harm, despair, fear and deep self-hatred further define the self-projected sonic downfall that aims at representing the end of self, the quitting of life, the erasure of future, and the complete suppression of hope and happiness. Like its predecessor “Resigner”, “Kill Your Boss” is another harsh industrial weapon for complete self-elimination conceived to challenge and reject the reality of modern day first world spiritual and emotional slavery.
With new full-length album «Kill Your Boss», the New York state-based solo artist subverter takes its concept of absolute abjection and rejection for society via violent, home made, aural deconstructionism to new reality-shattering heights. An onslaught of heavy rhythmics and cold sequences assaults the listener while concepts like societal alienation, industrial exploitation, rogue capitalism, and depersonalization through modern day slavery are driven home and pounded into the listener’s mind through an escapable power electronics assault armored with a sheath of grinding guitars as thick as concrete. The souls of defining acts in the industrial legacy like Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Godflesh, Controlled Bleeding, :Wumpscut:, Wolf Eyes, Skullflower, Incapacitants, and Coil are reaped from the fabric of musical transformation and re-funneled into a violent dysmorphic mutation where all their extremities are exalted and an obsession with violence, nihilism and acts of self-destruction become the defining shaping medium of five long, immense, obsessive and bludgeoning anthems to the choice of non-existence in the face of servitude.
