Chrome Corpse – Helmet Mounted Display [Vertex]
Chrome Corpse is a very young reality in the world of U.S.A neo-oldschool EBM. After a series of Eps they debuted on Area Z with the full length Anything That Moves last year. Now their return with the 6-track cassette Helmet Mounted Display on Vertex records.
Here they further elaborate their style employing influences tangential to oldschool EBM like new-beat, house, techno-pop. The result is a quite diverse and exhilarating EP rich in hooks and refrains.
Failsafe welcomes us with its throbbing basslines and hard kicks, setting the mood for a sci-fi ride among shouted vocales and dystopian atmospheres. Front 242 and Nitzer Ebb vocal styles meet Cabaret Voltaire’s sampling in this effective number recalling the past.
Remembering Your Words is a juicy affair with irresistible synth sounds and chanting choruses, another example of hard-hitting but melody-blessed track from the band. The listener will find himself dancing in ecstatic frenzy.
Swedish Ballistics presents a riffing motif enriched by steady beats and obsessive mantras, an episode full of 80’s mojo and mechanical movements. By contrast the funky vocals give warmth to the composition, in a perfect balance.
With Helmet Mounted Display Chrome Corpse fine-tunes their established sound with a broaden scope and an apologetic taste for hypnotizing hooks and loops. If you are an oldschool rivethead, or simply a lover of classic EBM sound, you will have your fun here.
Release date: November 6th, 2020.
