VA – Utopia Vanished: From Enslavement to Reiteration [Veyl]

Labels like Veyl often show us that there are record projects that coexist with a single ideal, which is to work with a countercultural proposal that is reluctant to the mainstream, and with a wide and diverse musical line, in which any style can be adapted and become part of the same sound environment.  This is the avant-garde spirit of post-punk, that of total freedom for each artist to operate from their own creative perspective.

Utopia Vanished: From Enslavement to Reiteration is a massive album with which the Italian label demonstrates its wide room for manoeuvre. The release brings together 25 producers on a total of 50 tracks, a grandiloquent compilation if we take into account the names of the artists and bands that collaborate, most of them related to Veyl because they are part of its catalogue, such as Years of Denial, Exhausted Modern, LDWG, LOFN, Verge, Blind Delon, Harlem or Maenad Veyl, and others who join this project for the first time such as Shifted, Arnaud Rebotini, Filmmaker, Job Sifre, Sue Lèwig or Prequel Tapes.

As for the style of the album, each track represents the versatility and the field in which each author moves. They perfectly coexist in gloomy scenarios, unsuitable for the subsistence of any organism, with other types of brighter and livelier nuances. If Veyl’s message with this release is that of a desolate and completely devastated future world, the interpretation of each artist can be due to the infinite ways to face it.
