Nahja Mora – Inside Out

The new EP by the American band Nahja Mora is an experimental industrial rock work that not only pushes the boundaries of sound but also delves into one of the most disturbing issues in contemporary American society: mass shootings and their media coverage.

El nuevo EP de la banda americana Nahja Mora es una obra de rock industrial experimental que no solo desafía los límites del sonido, sino que también se sumerge en una de las problemáticas más perturbadoras de la sociedad contemporánea en Estados Unidos: las matanzas masivas y su tratamiento mediático.

Built on a foundation of samples and 15-minute loops (an eerie reflection of the average duration of an active shooting), this work offers an immersive and unsettling experience. Jeff Byers’ guitar adds abrasive and dense textures, while Jenny Rae Mettee’s bass on the second track provides a foreboding depth. Vocals, synthesizers, and percussion, performed by Josef Saint, serve as a guiding thread that leads the listener through a sonic landscape as oppressive as it is captivating.

Construido sobre una base de samples y loops de 15 minutos (un reflejo escalofriante del tiempo promedio de un tiroteo activo), este trabajo ofrece una experiencia inmersiva y perturbadora. La guitarra de Jeff Byers añade texturas abrasivas y densas, mientras que el bajo de Jenny Rae Mettee en la segunda pista aporta una profundidad ominosa. La voz, sintetizadores y percusión, ejecutados por Josef Saint, funcionan como un hilo conductor que guía al oyente a través de un paisaje sonoro tan opresivo como fascinante.

The EP’s production is intentionally raw and direct, with mixes split between the artist himself and Drew Mazurek (on track 2), and a final master by Eric Oehler at Submersible. The looping structure not only reinforces the idea of the endless cycle of violence and its media treatment but also invites a repetitive, almost hypnotic listening experience. This EP does not seek to glorify the issue or offer easy answers. Its essence is tragic and reflective, exploring the relationship between mental health, media coverage, and healthcare. In an era where the immediacy of information often trivializes horror, this work stands as a sonic testimony that forces us to listen and face reality from a different perspective.

La producción del EP es intencionalmente cruda y directa, con mezclas divididas entre el propio artista y Drew Mazurek (en la pista 2), y un máster final a cargo de Eric Oehler en Submersible. La estructura en bucle no solo refuerza la idea del ciclo interminable de la violencia y su tratamiento mediático, sino que también invita a una escucha repetitiva, casi hipnótica. Este EP no busca engrandecer el problema ni ofrecer respuestas fáciles. Su esencia es trágica y reflexiva, explorando la relación entre la salud mental, la cobertura mediática y la atención sanitaria. En una época donde la inmediatez de la información suele banalizar el horror, este trabajo se posiciona como un testimonio sonoro que nos obliga a escuchar y enfrentar la realidad desde un ángulo diferente.
