Razorback Hollow – Solis In Tenebris
Razorback Hollow is the throwback/oldschool electro-industrial/EBM side project of Daniel Belasco from synth-pop project Glass Apple Bonsai.
After two years of demos and digital Eps, the project has published its debut album Solus In Tenebris, now expanded in a new deluxe edition on Re:Mission Entertainment consisting of fourteen tracks.
Here the listener will find a love letter to late 80’s and early 90’s dark electro, U.S.A electro-industrial, EBM, and even some hints of new beat and influences from the author’s past ventures in synth-pop. The result is a highly enthralling work full of engaging refrains, verses, choruses, hard rhythms.
Angel Of Blood And Fire is a seductive track recalling Twitch-era Ministry and Die Warzau, a pastiche full of eerie synth sounds and inspired vocals, while Cold War sees the presence of Steven Archer of Ego Likeness in a moody affair full of melodies and gothic undertones graced by sci-fi refrains.
Collapse is a Wax Trax! track not on a Wax Trax! Release, and once again Belasco doesn’t forfeit his inner melodic muse. One of the most characteristic aspects of the project is its ever displayed love for hooks and haunting synth melodies.
Quietly Staying Alive is a neo new-beat affair which reminds us of Fanale and Oehler’s project Klack due to irresistible dance mantras and looping beats, 80’s galore without shame and a strong conviction supported by a strong songwriting.
The Great Mutilator is a twenty-minutes epic encompassing droning and orchestral dark ambient, synthwave, oldschool electro, soothing and cinematic female choruses. It’s an experimental piece where the artist shows his willingness to play outside of a comfort zone.
Solis In Tenebris is like a sonic box full of surprises for retro industrial/EBM lovers, and as in many albums of this kind, it touches many different aspects of that era while adding its own twist. Is a work of love for the genre, done with a lot of fun, but with a serious attention toward the crafting of hypnotizing tracks which set a mood and capture the listener.
Release date: July 3rd, 2020.
