Asymetric80 – Ashes on the Body [From Hell to Disco]

Nghtly, Asymetric80, WLDV, Ottoman Grüw, Carmilla Sioux, Nightcrawler & Newborn Ghost, Alpha Sect, and Delectro (in tracklist order) make up the artistic lineup that brings to life the first volume of Inferno. These are established names whose work, rooted in industrial, darkwave, and contemporary EBM, perfectly illustrates the sonic identity of the Catalan label From Hell to Disco. Led by Carmilla Sioux, this project, despite being only a few months old, already demonstrates a solid and well-defined direction. Inferno Vol. 1 also marks the label’s debut on vinyl, reaffirming its commitment to physical formats.

The compilation opens with Welcome To The Timeless Era by Italian producer Nghtly, a track where the punch of the percussion and a hypnotic arpeggio impose themselves over layers of whispered vocals, creating an atmosphere as dense as it is danceable. It is followed by Ashes on the Body by Asymetric80, a piece that masterfully navigates between contemporary EBM and the nostalgia of new beat, sustained by deep bass, hypnotic sequences, and direct percussion. Meanwhile, Nothing But Fear by WLDV presents itself as an exercise in tension and rupture, as what begins as a restrained groove, where austere percussion and synthetic lines play with minimalism, abruptly mutates midway through when the kick drum’s impact takes on a force close to hardcore. Closing Side A, L’âme se dilue by Ottoman Grüw delivers a dose of emotional rawness without sacrificing rhythmic pulse, featuring a syncopated beat and a harsh production that draws from both raw industrial and contemporary EBM, successfully immersing the listener in a harrowing and ritualistic sonic experience.

The opening of Side B with Carmilla Sioux’s If You Dare, I Burn is abrasive, an intimidating sonic proposition given the energy imposed by the dry, direct kick drum from the very first hit, with a mechanized pulse over which two melodic lines, inhabiting opposite frequencies, are layered in constant friction. Incubator emerges from the collaboration between Nightcrawler and Newborn Ghost, revealing itself as one of the most balanced tracks on the volume; the distinctive punch of the Catalan producer intertwines with the sensitivity of the vocals and melodically sinister details. With Spirals, Alpha Sect plays with the listener’s expectation, starting on a broken rhythm until it converges into a firm and overwhelming binary cadence, but it is the richness and combination of the arpeggiated lines that give it an unrelenting character. Delectro closes the compilation with Silent Suffering, a dark techno track, relentless from the very first second, with a structure built upon a monolithic rhythmic foundation and a hypnotic, absorbing harmonic conjugation.

Nghtly, Asymetric80, WLDV, Ottoman Grüw, Carmilla Sioux, Nightcrawler & Newborn Ghost, Alpha Sect y Delectro (y además por orden de tracklist) conforman el elenco artístico que da vida al primer volumen de Inferno. Se trata de nombres consolidados cuyas propuestas, ancladas en el industrial, el darkwave y el EBM contemporáneo, ilustran a la perfección la identidad sonora del sello catalán From Hell to Disco. Un proyecto liderado por Carmilla Sioux que, pese a contar con apenas unos meses de trayectoria, ya demuestra una dirección sólida y bien definida. Inferno Vol. 1 supone, además, el estreno del sello en el formato vinilo, reafirmando su apuesta por el soporte físico.

El compilado abre con Welcome To The Timeless Era, del productor italiano Nghtly, un corte donde la contundencia de la percusión y un arpegio hipnótico se imponen sobre capas de voces susurrantes, creando una atmósfera tan densa como bailable. Le sigue Ashes on the Body, de Asymetric80, una pieza que transita con maestría entre el EBM más actual y la nostalgia del new beat, sostenida por bajos profundos, secuencias hipnóticas y una percusión directa. Por su parte, Nothing But Fear, de WLDV, se presenta como un ejercicio de tensión y ruptura, ya que lo que comienza como un groove contenido, donde la percusión austera y las líneas sintéticas juegan al minimalismo, muta abruptamente a mitad de recorrido cuando la pegada del bombo adquiere una contundencia cercana al hardcore. Cerrando la cara A, L’âme se dilue, de Ottoman Grüw, aporta una dosis de crudeza emocional sin renunciar al pulso rítmico, con un compás sincopado y una producción áspera que bebe tanto del industrial más crudo como del actual EBM, consiguiendo sumergir al oyente en una experiencia sonora desgarradora y ritualista.

La apertura de la cara B de Carmilla Sioux con If You Dare, I Burn es abrasiva, una propuesta sonora intimidante dada la energía que impone el bombo seco y directo desde el primer impacto, con un latido mecanizado al que se superponen, en constante fricción, dos líneas melódicas que habitan frecuencias opuestas. Incubator surge de la colaboración entre Nightcrawler y Newborn Ghost, y se revela como uno de los cortes más equilibrados del volumen, ya que la pegada característica del productor catalán se entrelaza con la sensibilidad de vocales y detalles melódicos de aspecto siniestro. Con Spirals, Alpha Sect juega con la expectativa del oyente, arrancando sobre un ritmo quebrado hasta que confluye en una cadencia binaria firme y arrolladora, pero es la riqueza y combinación de las líneas arpegiadas lo que le da un carácter implacable. Delectro cierra la compilación con Silent Suffering, corte de techno oscuro, incesante desde el primer segundo y con una estructura que se sostiene sobre una base rítmica monolítica y una conjugación armónica hipnótica y absorbente.
