Antipole & Pedro Code – Future Echoes [Cold Transmission]

Three years after his last release, Antipole, the project of guitarist Karl Morten Dahl, returns with a new album. As with the two preceding records, Dahl revisits his formula of building the work around an external creative alliance.

The origins of Future Echoes date back to 2019, when Antipole established its first connection with Pedro Code, the figure at the helm of Iamtheshadow, at the Cold Transmission Festival. What at the time amounted to little more than an intention took six years to become a reality. During that interval, Karl was far from idle, most notably with A Haunted Place (2021), alongside Kill Shelter, and Crystalline (2023), with Paris Alexander. The catalyst came in 2024, during the recording of Walk With Me with his son Ja’kob, a process that opened the door to the creative impulse from which Future Echoes would emerge.

Throughout 2025, Dahl sent instrumental frameworks to Pedro Code, who shaped them with vocals, lyrics, synthesis, and production. The point at which the project’s direction crystallised was «Washed Away», the track from which it became clear that the material had sufficient weight to sustain a full album.

What makes the combination work is that neither artist surrenders his identity to the other. Antipole’s guitars retain their characteristic melancholy, at times strikingly fresh, while also conveying fragility and a density consistent with his style. Pedro Code responds in kind with an unfathomable voice, an unmistakable presence, and a production approach that navigates contrasts with precision.

Tres años después de su última entrega, Antipole, el proyecto del guitarrista Karl Morten Dahl, vuelve a escena con un nuevo álbum. Como en los dos álbumes precedentes, Dahl repite la fórmula de construirlo en torno a una alianza creativa externa.

El origen de Future Echoes se remonta a 2019, cuando Antipole estableció su primer vínculo con Pedro Code, figura al frente de Iamtheshadow, en el marco del Cold Transmission Festival. Lo que entonces no pasaba de ser una intención, necesitó seis años para convertirse en realidad. Y por supuesto, durante ese intervalo Karl no estuvo inactivo; recordamos especialmente A Haunted Place (2021) junto a Kill Shelter y Crystalline (2023) con Paris Alexander. El detonante llegó en 2024, durante la grabación de Walk With Me con su hijo Ja’kob, un proceso que abrió la puerta al impulso creativo del que nacería Future Echoes.

A lo largo de 2025, Dahl fue enviando estructuras instrumentales a Pedro Code, quien las fue dotando de voz, letra, síntesis y producción. El punto en el que la dirección del proyecto quedó definida fue «Washed Away», tema a partir del cual resultó evidente que el material tenía entidad suficiente para sostener un álbum completo.

Lo que hace que la suma funcione es que ninguno de los dos cede su identidad al otro. Las guitarras de Antipole mantienen esa melancolía característica, en ocasiones con mucha frescura, al mismo tiempo que demuestra fragilidad y una densidad acorde con su estilo. Y Pedro Code perfectamente responde con una voz insondable, de presencia inconfundible y con una producción que gestiona los contrastes con precisión.
