Soviet Gym – Workout [Soil Records]
We became aware in the middle of the last decade of Arturo Marín’s fervour for the musical genres that prevailed in the clubs of eastern Spain in the 1980s, just when this artist came into the world. We were surprised by his debut album, self-released and released in 2016, and the great impact it had on many of the Spanish media. Nowadays, EBM, and all the musical genres coming from the post-punk and post-industrial era that surrounded this scene, are very current, however, 8 years ago it was not so common to find Spanish producers linked to this sound, and Arturo Marín, with his project Soviet Gym and his album Bacaladdero, aroused the curiosity of journalists, musicians and music lovers.
Soviet Gym returns with a new album, this time signed to Soil Records. Workout clearly exemplifies the author’s sonic direction and his multiple influences. With a total of eleven tracks, the release encapsulates the different creative paths Soviet Gym takes, with uncompromising arguments, free from fear or inhibitions, featuring explicit themes (bordering on the provocative), intricate developments, and satisfying progressions, designed to confront clubbing and its fringes as a captivating, sensual, and cathartic journey.
Release date: February 1st, 2024.
