Trepaneringsritualen – A Diadem Of Fire [Raubbau/Ant-Zen]

Trepaneringsritualen is the brainchild of Swedish artist Thomas Martin Ekelund, a ritual-industrial project informed by death industrial, dark ambient, power electronics. Active since 2008, the outfit has quite a vast discography, which includes many albums, EPs, singles, compilations, and even collaborations with household name Mz.412, and experimental black metal/industrial bands like Deathstench and Sutekh Hexen

A Diadem Of Fire is a new manifestation of this sonic entity, a 4-track EP that moves the aforementioned facets of Trepaneringsritualen, delivering an engrossing and captivating sound with strong ritualistic leanings.

Tainted Totem Nothing welcomes us with a dark ambient movement full of eerie atmospheres, suddenly interrupted by majestic drones; it guides us toward the title track, an abrasive exercise in galvanizing distortion, sharp distorted vocals, and throbbing, obsessive rhythms completed by black metal innuendos.

With Hand And Heart crushes us with its almost robotic march informed by old-school industrial and black/death vocal deliveries. The result is a compulsive affair coherent to the sound Ekelend has established through the years; the second half even sees some skeletal electro-industrial influences, while keeping its dark nature.

Tainted Totem Nothing returns in the final track, even if with a slightly different spelling, becoming a spectral version of itself that lives in sonic shadows, distant and terrifying.

A Diadem Of Fire is another piece in the evolving series of Trepaneringsritualen’s releases, a self-contained episode that, in a short time-length, tells us a story rooted in occult and ancient mysteries, underlined by industrial rhythms and tribal evocations.

Trepaneringsritualen es la creación del artista sueco Thomas Martin Ekelund, un proyecto de ritual-industrial influenciado por el death industrial, el dark ambient y el power electronics. Activo desde 2008, el proyecto cuenta con una discografía bastante vasta, que incluye numerosos álbumes, EPs, sencillos, recopilatorios e incluso colaboraciones con nombres consagrados como Mz.412, y bandas de black metal/industrial experimental como Deathstench y Sutekh Hexen.

A Diadem Of Fire es una nueva manifestación de esta entidad sónica, un EP de 4 pistas que mueve los hilos antes mencionados de Trepaneringsritualen, ofreciendo un sonido absorbente y cautivador con fuertes inclinaciones ritualistas.

Tainted Totem Nothing nos da la bienvenida con un movimiento de dark ambient lleno de atmósferas inquietantes, interrumpido de pronto por majestuosos drones; nos guía hacia el tema que da título al EP, un ejercicio abrasivo en distorsión galvanizante, voces distorsionadas y agudas, y ritmos palpitantes y obsesivos completados con insinuaciones del black metal.

With Hand And Heart nos aplasta con su marcha casi robótica, marcada por el industrial de la vieja escuela y voces cercanas al black/death. El resultado es una propulsión compulsiva, coherente con el sonido que Ekelund ha establecido a lo largo de los años; la segunda mitad incluso muestra algunas influencias esqueléticas de electro-industrial, sin perder su naturaleza oscura.

Tainted Totem Nothing regresa en la pista final, aunque con una ortografía ligeramente diferente, convirtiéndose en una versión espectral de sí misma que habita en las sombras sonoras, distante y aterradora.

A Diadem Of Fire es otra pieza en la serie en evolución de lanzamientos de Trepaneringsritualen, un episodio autocontenido que, en un breve lapso de tiempo, nos cuenta una historia arraigada en lo oculto y en misterios ancestrales, subrayada por ritmos industriales y evocaciones tribales.
