Heimito Künst – Vol. 3 [Dissipatio]

The mysterious musical entity Heimito Künst returns with the aptly titled Vol. 3, the third album in the discography of the project. If the previous entries, the self-titled debut and the sophomore Post Exoticism, had more of an abstract, ambient approach informed by drone music, this new installment is quite rhythmic and more structured in its nature.

Inspired by Thomas Bernhard, the 19th-century clinical technique called Urbantschitsch method, used to wake up residual hearing in the deaf through the repetition of sound, and by analog synthesizers, this album guides the listener throughout eight sonic experiments graced by a visceral, almost psychoactive quality.

The pounding start of Entropie recalls 70s Kosmische Musik, employing eerie layers and shooting loops, while I fall from the shadows and burn is a way more frantic affair, possessed by sonic urgency and, later, by evocative sax sounds.

Mirror Game summons musique concrète and sci-fi undertones with its machine-like effects and obsessive samples, while The strange case of the Architect S. offers a mesmerizing ambient piece with cinematic qualities.

Turn off the light ends the album with an emotive, slow-paced track upon which delicate, almost whispered, vocals are layered, and where orchestral passages grant us a melancholic, wistful experience.

Vol. 3 will be a rewarding experience for any listener interested in engaging, immersive music with psychedelic soundscapes and a backbone made of rhythmic patterns. Various emoticons are evoked here, from calming, soothing moments to distorted, nervous, droning numbers, and mysterious, eerie pastiches.

La misteriosa entidad musical Heimito Künst regresa con el acertadamente titulado Vol. 3, el tercer álbum de la discografía del proyecto. Si las entregas anteriores, el debut homónimo y el segundo trabajo Post Exoticism, tenían un enfoque más abstracto y ambiental influido por la música drone, esta nueva entrega es bastante más rítmica y estructurada en su naturaleza.

Inspirado en Thomas Bernhard, en la técnica clínica del siglo XIX conocida como método Urbantschitsch, empleada para despertar la audición residual en personas sordas mediante la repetición de sonidos, y en los sintetizadores analógicos, este álbum guía al oyente a través de ocho experimentos sonoros dotados de una cualidad visceral, casi psicoactiva.

El contundente comienzo de Entropie evoca la Kosmische Musik de los años 70, haciendo uso de capas inquietantes y bucles explosivos, mientras que I fall from the shadows and burn es un asunto mucho más frenético, poseído por una urgencia sonora y, más adelante, por evocadoras texturas de saxofón.

Mirror Game convoca la musica concreta y los matices de ciencia ficción con sus efectos mecánicos y sus obsesivos samples, mientras que The strange case of the Architect S. ofrece una hipnótica pieza ambiental de cualidades cinematográficas.

Turn off the light cierra el álbum con un tema emotivo y de ritmo pausado sobre el que se superponen voces delicadas, casi susurradas, y en el que pasajes orquestales nos regalan una experiencia melancólica y nostálgica.

Vol. 3 será una experiencia gratificante para cualquier oyente interesado en música envolvente e inmersiva, con paisajes sonoros psicodélicos y una columna vertebral hecha de patrones rítmicos. Aquí se evocan distintas emociones, desde momentos calmados y serenos hasta piezas distorsionadas, nerviosas y hipnóticas, pasando por pasteles misteriosos e inquietantes.
