Josef Global – Female Digitalia

From the transatlantic connection between Gothenburg, Sweden, and São Paulo, Brazil, emerges Josef Global, a new musical project embodied by life partners Renata dS and Joacim SdL. The duo presents itself as a melting pot of influences and experiences, crystallizing into a sound that is as dark as it is captivating. With their debut single, «Female Digitalia,» they offer the first, powerful piece of a sonic puzzle that will be completed with their debut album this fall.

The essence of Josef Global is forged in an intimate and everyday space: the couch in their living room. It is from this peculiar studio that they construct their music, dark, obstinate, and powerfully driven by synthesizers. Their sound is a journey into a liminal state of mind, where surrealist lyrics intertwine with what they themselves call «nonsense born from sleep deprivation,» creating a unique and slightly unsettling atmosphere.

Stylistically, the duo demonstrates a skill for navigating between genres. They flirt with the rhythmic coldness of EBM, the pent-up angst of post-punk, and the electronic purity of minimal wave. However, in this first foray, they also incorporate the powerful punch of techno. This eclectic blend brings to mind references such as Sparks, Die Form, Kid Fourteen, or Deize Tigrona.

On a personal level, the story of Josef Global is built upon two decades within the underground scene. Joacim SdL brings to the project the experience of 20 years as a vocalist in a myriad of punk and hardcore bands. Meanwhile, Renata dS has been a driving force and a key figure behind the scenes of numerous underground venues in Gothenburg and across Europe, contributing a deep understanding of the independent music landscape.

De la conexión transatlántica entre Gotemburgo (Suecia) y São Paulo (Brasil) emerge Josef Global, un nuevo proyecto musical que encarnan los compañeros de vida Renata dS y Joacim SdL. Este dúo se presenta como un crisol de influencias y experiencias que cristalizan en una propuesta tan oscura como cautivadora. Con su debut single, «Female Digitalia», nos ofrecen la primera y contundente pieza de un puzzle sonoro que se completará con su álbum debut a lo largo de este otoño.

La esencia de Josef Global se forja en un espacio íntimo y cotidiano: el sofá de su salón. Es desde este peculiar estudio que construyen unos temas oscuros, obstinados y potentemente impulsados por sintetizadores. Su música es un viaje a un estado mental liminal, donde letras surrealistas se entrelazan con lo que ellos mismos denominan «disparates surgidos de la privación del sueño», creando una atmósfera única y ligeramente inquietante.

Estilísticamente, el dúo demuestra habilidad para navegar entre géneros. Coquetean con la frialdad rítmica del EBM, la angustia contenida del post-punk y la pureza electrónica del minimal wave, no obstante, en esta primera incursión añaden también la pegada contundente del techno. Esta mezcla heterogénea suena a referentes como Sparks, Die Form, Kid Fourteen o Deize Tigrona.

En el plano personal, la historia de Josef Global está cimentada en dos décadas de escena underground. Joacim SdL llega al proyecto con el bagaje de 20 años como vocalista en una miríada de bandas de punk y hardcore. Por su parte, Renata dS ha sido una fuerza motriz y una pieza clave tras los bastidores de numerosos venues subterráneos de Gotemburgo y toda Europa, aportando una profunda comprensión de la escena independiente.
