Scottish Power – PUSH! [Still Distant Records]

Scottish Power is a project born from the collaboration between Paulitcal and New Town Ground, the minds behind the label Still Distant Records. The label has built its identity on a seemingly contradictory foundation: the raw brutality of industrial metal and the rhythmic angst of post-punk, all filtered through the relentless lens of techno and electronic music.

Three years after the release of their third EP, the duo takes a new turn toward the «psychotic.» Far from the conception of techno as a genre of polished, gleaming tracks for the dance floor, Scottish Power’s vision is the opposite. Theirs is a dark, visceral, and aggressive form of techno, drawing directly from the primitive roots of EBM and the blunt-force aesthetic of industrial. Over this rhythmic foundation, the duo incorporates flashes of mind-bending acid lines and touches of abstract electronics that destabilize perception. The result is a proposal with a complex and twisted narrative.

Psychological Meltdown stands as the natural and most refined evolution of their sound. The EP demonstrates a renewed emphasis on the density and detail of its textures, creating layers of sound that invite deep, almost tactile listening. The four original tracks that comprise it function like interchangeable parts of the same heavy, complex, and perfectly functioning machinery, an unstoppable gear moving with the precision of an assembly line and the ferocity of a hydraulic hammer.

Scottish Power es un proyecto fruto de la colaboración entre Paulitcal y New Town Ground, las mentes al frente del sello Still Distant Records, que ha construido su identidad sobre una base aparentemente contradictoria, como es la crudeza del metal industrial y la angustia rítmica del post-punk, filtrado a través de la lente implacable del techno y la electrónica.

Tres años después del lanzamiento de su tercer EP, el dúo da un nuevo giro de tuerca hacia lo «psicótico». Lejos de la concepción del techno como un género de pistas pulidas y brillantes para la pista de baile, la visión de Scottish Power es opuesta, ya que se trata de un techno oscuro, visceral y agresivo, que bebe directamente de las raíces más primitivas del EBM y la estética contundente del industrial. Sobre esta base rítmica, el dúo incorpora destellos de líneas acid que retuercen la mente y toques de electrónica abstracta que desestabilizan la percepción. El resultado es una propuesta con una narrativa compleja y retorcida.

Psychological Meltdown se presenta como la evolución natural y más depurada de su sonido. El EP evidencia un énfasis renovado en la densidad y el detalle de sus texturas, creando capas de sonido que invitan a una escucha profunda y casi táctil. Los cuatro temas originales que lo componen actúan como las piezas intercambiables de una misma maquinaria pesada, compleja y en perfecto funcionamiento, como un engranaje imparable que avanza con la precisión de una cadena de montaje y la ferocidad de un martillo hidráulico.
