Bill Leeb – Machine Vision [Metropolis Records]

Based in Vancouver, Bill Leeb is the creative mastermind behind various projects, though he is best remembered for two fundamental pillars of his legacy: the electro-industrial force of Front Line Assembly and the ethereal ambient-pop atmospheres of Delerium. His career, which spans nearly four decades, began early on as a member of Skinny Puppy, a group he departed from to forge his own path with his own band. In addition to his two main projects, Leeb has been the creative force behind a constellation of parallel endeavors such as Noise Unit, Intermix, and Cyberaktif, thereby exploring different facets of techno, EBM, and industrial music.

Following the release of Model Kollapse in September 2024, his first solo album, Leeb presents Machine Vision, a complementary EP that serves as both an extension and a reinterpretation of his previous work. This new release consists of five remixes of tracks from Model Kollapse plus one brand new, previously unreleased song, offering a fresh perspective on his most recent material. The preview for this EP was Neuromotive (Stacks Mix by Rhys Fulber), a single released in April 2025 that demonstrates the evolution of his signature sound.

The album Model Kollapse was recorded and produced between Vancouver, Toronto, and Los Angeles, a collaborative effort that reflects the interconnected nature of Leeb’s career. For its creation, he enlisted the help of the production duo Dream Bullet, based in Vancouver and Toronto, and, crucially, Rhys Fulber. Fulber is a lifelong collaborator, a fundamental cohort in both Front Line Assembly and Delerium, whose influence has been key in defining the sound of both projects for years. Completing the team is their longtime mixing engineer, Greg Reely, ensuring the impeccable sound quality that characterizes all of Leeb’s work.

Model Kollapse connects the past with the present. The album pays homage to and draws directly from pioneers of 80s EBM and industrial music like DAF and Front 242, as well as the raw and experimental aesthetic of his first band, Skinny Puppy. However, the album clearly demonstrates how that original industrial seed has influenced and is reflected in the work of contemporary artists such as the enigmatic Gesaffelstein or the duo ADULT., as well as in much of the current darkwave genre.
