HEATHE – Control Your Soul’s Desire For Freedom [Empty Tape / Virkelighedsfjern]

HEATHE opens the doors to a dark universe where handcrafted club rhythms and the raw energy of nu-metal collide with the sacred grandeur of gospel and the chaotic freedom of free jazz. This is a space of sonic confrontation, where dissonance is elevated to an art form and infinite repetition becomes a hypnotic mantra.

The group conjures massive, overwhelming walls of sound, crafted from collages of noise, deep reverberations, and metallic textures that resonate in the darkness. Within this auditory landscape, despair, high-frequency ecstasy, and aggressive bursts of energy create a visceral experience.

Since their formation in 2016 in Aalborg, the band has astonished audiences with the uniqueness of their style and their stage presence. In 2025, they return with their second album, Control Your Heart’s Desire for Freedom (Empty Tape & Virkelighedsfjern), a relentless maelstrom of aggressive polyrhythms, cacophonous noise rock, and vocals that herald the end of this world as we know it.

The album opens with a haunting account of childhood fears of the apocalypse, fears that, over its 65 minutes, evolve from an abstract anxiety into vividly intense nightmares. Collapsing ecosystems, civil wars, and bombings unfold before the listener with ever-increasing narrative power.

The six tracks traverse sonic territories where depressive pop, live techno, dark post-hardcore, and hypnotic loops intersect, all bound together by sung choruses, auto-tune, and desperate, half-suffocated screams. From the opening track Black Milk Sour Soil, through the syncopated groove of My Gods Destroy and the absolute depression of The Truth Hurts, to the auto-tuned, hip-hop attitude chorus of Uproar Taking Shape, the slow-burning climax of Valencia’s Next, and finally the grieving void of Black As Oil. The album is a descent into a beautiful hopelessness.

Este es un espacio de confrontación sonora, donde la disonancia se eleva a forma de arte y la repetición infinita se convierte en un mantra hipnótico.

El grupo conjura muros sonoros masivos y abrumadores, elaborados a partir de collages de ruido, profundas reverberaciones y texturas metálicas que resuenan en la oscuridad. En este paisaje auditivo, la desesperación, el éxtasis de alta frecuencia y los arranques agresivos de energía crean una experiencia visceral.

El álbum abre con un inquietante relato sobre los miedos infantiles al apocalipsis, unos temores que, a lo largo de sus 65 minutos, evolucionan de una ansiedad abstracta a pesadillas vividas con cruda intensidad, con ecosistemas colapsando, guerras civiles y bombardeos que se desarrollan ante el oyente con una potencia narrativa creciente.

Las seis pistas transitan por terrenos sonoros donde se intersectan el pop depresivo, el techno en vivo, el post-hardcore oscuro y los bucles hipnóticos, todo unido por coros cantados, auto-tune y desesperados gritos semiasfixiados. Desde el tema de apertura Black Milk Sour Soil, pasando por el groove sincopado de My Gods Destroy y la depresión absoluta de The Truth Hurts, hasta el estribillo con auto-tune y actitud hip-hop de Uproar Taking Shape, el clímax ardiente y lento de Valencia’s Next, y finalmente el vacío afligido de Black As Oil. El álbum es un descenso a una hermosa desesperanza.
